So what do you teach here? The Metis Center doesn't actually provide lessons to students. What we do is provide independent teachers a space to meet their students. If you're looking for a teacher for lessons in a variety of subjects, check out our page,
"Who is teaching at the Metis Center?".
What are your weekend hours?Reservations to The Metis Center are available 24/7. You will have access to the center anytime a room is available, nights and weekends included!
When can I reserve a room? You will be able to reserve a room as soon as we approve your application and send you an email with the details needed to log into the system.
Can I preview the rooms prior to applying to The Metis Center?Absolutely! If you would like to speak with the director, just call ahead and an appointment will be set. Call Ed Parecki at (503) 977-9988
Are there other amenities in the building?Yes! The Spring Creek Coffee House is now open and serving delicious coffee and treats! Your students and parents can wait there before, during or after their lessons. Free wi-fi internet access is available. Mark Gamba Gallery is next door, offering beautiful fine art photography for your enjoyment.
What equipment do you provide with the rooms? Each room has two music stands and folding chairs. As usage is increased you may request additional equipment and your request will be considered.
Can I rent just for occasional workspace or business meetings?Absolutely! Once you become a registered user of The Metis Center you can use it as frequently or infrequently as you need. The space is ideal for business meetings (especially when confidentiality is an issue).
Can a band rehearse in this premise? Our studios are approximately 100 sq ft each. A small band can rehearse in the space on the condition it do so "after hours". The space is available 24/7 and most teaching is completed by around 8 to 9pm. If a band wanted to rehearse after these hours, it may do so. Since this is a commercial zone, there are no neighbors to bother!! Call for more information.
I am a percussionist who is relocating to Portland -I will need a space to practice as an apartment will not do. Are percussion instruments acceptable?Pecussion instruments are allowed in The Metis Center. Currently, the Saturn room is being used for drum instruction and rehearsal. We will be adding additional sound deadening materials to the Saturn room to allow more times available for percussion use. Since we are located in a commercial zone, any time after 5:00pm. would be ideal for practice and teaching of percussion instruments. We are not responsible, though, for any instrument left in the rooms. Call for more information.
When will the rooms be available?Rooms are available NOW! Call for an appointment to preview the spaces available.
